Getting Outdoors

Visitors to this state park will find quite a few outdoor activities to do while here. One activity to consider doing is hiking. The park is filled with over 12 miles of trails, such as the Pine Trail, Coyote Run, and Gold Dust Trail. Many of these trails will take you through thick hardwood forests and most feature observation deck areas. In addition to these, this park also has a few bridle trails you could go horseback riding on. Keep in mind though that horses need to have a negative Coggins report in order to enter.

Camping at Powhatan State Park

For those who want to book an RV in Powhatan County, you’ll be able to do so at this state park. The park offers 29 camping RV sites but keep in mind that motorhomes longer than 60 feet are not permitted. Pets are allowed to stay with you, although there are a few rules that need to be followed, such as ensuring they are on a leash at all times.

Exploring the Area

Thanks to its location, there are plenty of destinations to visit with your travel trailer while in Powhatan. A short drive away in Richmond is Maymont. This historic spot covers over 100 acres and will take visitors back in time to the Victorian era. You’ll be able to tour an old mansion on the grounds as well as wander through its many gardens, like the Japanese Garden and Italian Garden. There’s also a small animal farm and nature center.
