Tippecanoe River State Park is a popular destination for hiking and horseback riding; there are miles of trails, some of which are restricted to hiking only. Visitors can wander through the forests and alongside streams; a 90-foot fire tower, built in the 1930s, offers guests an unrestricted view of the surrounding area. The trails are rated from easy to moderate in difficulty. Guests can also canoe or kayak the park river and can rent the canoes or kayaks locally. Boat motors are restricted to electric motors. Hunting is also allowed in season, as is hiking and horseback riding. Hikers and horseback riders should wear bright orange vests during hunting season. Miami State Recreation Area is one of three outdoor recreation areas on Mississinewa Lake where guests can go swimming, boating, fishing, and hunting. The lake is a flood-controlled reservoir surrounded by forests, open prairie, and farmland. Visitors can additionally go waterskiing on the lake, enjoy the basketball and volleyball courts, and horseshoe pitch. There are two fishing piers, a fish cleaning station, and a frisbee golf course. Hikers can enjoy the many miles of trails that encircle the lake and wind through the landscape.
