Originally founded as a mining camp, and named for the Mammoth Mine, Mammoth, Arizona is a small town in the southern part of Arizona. Mammoth was officially settled in 1872, becoming a residential community for miners and their families. When the last mines near the town finally closed in the early 21st century, the town lost one of its primary industries, causing lots of residents to move out of town.
