Grand Ledge, a city in the heart of Michigan, has the charm of a small town and is surrounded by both forest and open fields. Despite this, it’s not that far from the border city of Detroit, and it’s a medium-length drive to get to Chicago. If you want to visit places a little more local when you rent a motorhome in Grand Ledge, the capital of Michigan, Lansing, is close by. Additionally, Grand Ledge is situated in between Grand Rapids and Flint, both larger cities with a lot to offer.

If cities aren’t your thing or if you want to mix it up a little, the scenic Huron-Manistee National Forests and Grayling State Forest Area are both easy to get to. So are not just one, but two of the Great Lakes - Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Getting around with an RV rental in Grand Lodge isn’t hard either, since both the M-43 and M-100, intersecting with Interstate 69 and 96, run through the city. It even has its own airport.

Grand Ledge’s Great Outdoors

It doesn’t really get greater than the Great Lakes and since you’re staying with your camper rental in Grand Ledge, you have the luxury of choosing between two out of the four. Lake Michigan is closer than Lake Huron, but both can be reached by lunchtime if you set off after breakfast. Once here you can bathe in both the lakes and the sun since there are beautiful sandy beaches. And the sunsets over both lakes are truly breathtaking.

The Huron-Manistee National Forests are about as far away from your travel trailer rental in Grand Ledge as Lake Michigan. Here you can find great hiking trails - 330 miles of them - and if you aren’t bored of water yet, there are thousands of lakes and miles of streams and rivers, good for both canoeing and fishing. Other recreation activities include hunting, biking and, in the winter, skiing. You can even reach the shore of Lake Michigan from here.

The Grayling State Forest Area, a little farther away, is also great for experiencing the Michigan wildlife and nature. Its trails are both paved and unpaved, great for both biking and hiking. The terrain is worth seeing at any time of the year, with beautifully green springs and summers, burned fall colors and a winter wonderland, so don’t forget to bring your camera.

At Lansing Cottonwood Campground you’ll have access to full hookups as well as hot showers. There’s a laundry room for your clothes, and for fun, there’s a large pool, a playground, and an open field for soccer or football. Those who are a little bit more adventurous might want to consider a visit to Oak Park, which is one of few places in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula where you can climb on rocks.
