Wixom is a small community in southeast Michigan. It used to be an important railroad junction at the turn of the century. The city rose to prominence in the 20th century because of the now-demolished Wixom Assembly Plant. The plant produced some of the famous classic cars such as the Ford Thunderbird and Ford GT. Today, Wixom is a great place for young families, with plenty of greenery and natural wonders all around. Hidden among the parks is the Wixom Public Library. This gorgeous building is the place to be if you want to catch up on your reading or attend an interesting event. It is right next to the City fountain where you may sit on a bench and relax. The Wixom-Wire House Museum that is maintained by the Wixom Historical Society is a must-see for Proud Lake Recreation Area campers interested in the development of this area. The museum is run by volunteers who relentlessly collect documents, photographs, and artifacts related to Wixom and its past. The permanent exhibit features hundreds of pieces that tell this city’s story from the arrival of the first settlers to the rise and fall of Wixom’s industry. Even though Wixom is not a large city, it has a good culinary scene with several international restaurants downtown. One of the favorite eateries among locals is a place that serves Italian food. The pizza here is very delicious. When you feel ready to start your rental RV and explore a new place, make sure, your tank is full. There are a couple of gas stations near the highway that leads in and out of Wixom. Take a 35-minute ride to Detroit, the largest city in Michigan, and see what the area offers outdoor enthusiasts.
