Discover Palmyra

The Great Outdoors

Palmyra Cove Nature Park stretches across 250 acres of wetlands, forest, meadows, and freshwater tidal coves. The park boasts approximately ten miles of trails and offers visitors opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, geocaching, and even cross-country skiing when the weather permits. Palmyra Cove Nature Park is especially popular among birdwatchers as the park has been designated an “Important Bird and Birding Area” for its more than 215 species of birds that have been observed here.

Is it a marsh? A creek? A lake? It’s all three, and you can experience this terrific trio at Marsh Creek State Park in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The park stretches across 1,727 acres of rolling hills in the northern portion of Chester County and is home to the stunning 535-acre Marsh Creek Lake. Take to the waters on a sailboat, fish for large-mouth bass, channel catfish, black crappie, and panfish, or try your hand at ice boating (who knew that was a thing?!) if you rent an RV in the winter. Explore the land via 18 miles of hiking trails or just chill out on the banks of the lake and enjoy a picnic while watching the sunset.

Cooper River Park in Pennsauken Township is a great place to visit if you’re traveling with children. Along the shores of the Cooper River, this scenic park has a boat launch, picnic area, a mini-golf course, paths for cycling, and several multi-purpose athletic fields. Spend the day playing volleyball, fishing, checking out the sculpture garden, or enjoying a picnic in one of the many pavilions. Cooper River Park is home to a golf academy and Camden County Boathouse too. Spanning approximately 347 acres, the park runs through multiple townships and is an awesome place for locals and visitors alike to spend some time soaking up the sun.

RV Parks

There aren’t many RV parks in the area when you rent a motorhome in Palmyra. However, there are a few. One option is Campus Park and Ride in Philadelphia. Though not what you’d typically expect from an RV park, it’s a great option if you want ease of access to explore The City of Brotherly Love. An 11-acre urban RV park, the campground has several sites which are level and paved. Each site has partial hookups including water and 20/30/50 amp electrical service. Because there are no sewer hookups, there is an on-site dump station which guests can use. While at the campground, guests also have access to restrooms, Wi-Fi, and hot showers. Though Campus Park and Ride is in the heart of a big city, the RV park is gated and monitored by security cameras for your safety and convenience.

If you want a more traditional RV park, you can consider Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA in Clarksboro, New Jersey. Approximately 30 miles outside of Palmyra, this family-friendly campground has several pull-through and back-in sites in partial and full hookups. Every site at this KOA has a picnic table, fire pit, and 30/50 amp electrical service. While camping, you have access to a seasonal swimming pool, a playground area for children, and a private and well-stocked fishing lake. And pets are allowed, so bring them in exercise them in the on-site dog park.

Exploring the City

Indulge in a bit of history when you book an RV rental near Palmyra by paying a visit to C.A. Nothnagle Log House. The historic log cabin was built between 1638 and 1643 and is one of the oldest surviving log structures in the country. A mere 16 by 22 feet, the log cabin was previously used for making dairy products and cutting meat. Today, it is recommended to tour by appointment. Inside the log cabin, you can check out the various artifacts on display as well as original furnishings.

Book an RV in Burlington County, and you might be pleased to learn that Palmyra is less than 20 minutes' drive away from Philadelphia. Regardless of your definition of “a good time,” you can have one when you visit this sprawling city. Check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art and encounter a variety of Renaissance classics plus the ever-changing temporary exhibits. See the Liberty Bell, a symbol of American freedom, at the Liberty Bell Center in Independence National Historical Park, or tour Eastern State Penitentiary. Once the most expensive and famous prison in the world, the Gothic-style prison is now a museum. Come visit the eerie remains that once housed notorious criminals like “Slick Willie” Sutton and “Scarface” Al Capone.

Also, check out the Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse in Paulsboro when you book a motorhome rental in Palmyra. For over 125 years, the Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse has guided commerce through the Delaware River. But the light feature doesn’t look like your typical lighthouse. Instead of the standard solid wood or stone structures you normally envision when you think of a lighthouse, the Tinicum Lighthouse is a steel skeletal structure. Standing 85 feet high, guests can climb the 112 steps leading from the base to the lantern room. You can tour the operational lighthouse on the third Sunday of each month.

No matter when you decide to visit or where you decide to stay, your next adventure awaits in Palmyra, New Jersey.
