Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.
Lake Tappan was created in 1967 when the construction of the Tappan Dam was completed. As the water rose, filling the reservoir, it flooded a Civil Air Patrol airstrip as well as homes in the hollow bowl. Today, the lake encompasses around 1,255 acres, stretching across the New York-New Jersey border. It supplies water to the surrounding towns and also functions as a fishing hole. As of 2003, it was designated a Category 1 water purity source, which means there is no swimming or boating in this lake. However, fishing from the banks is permitted.
