The Great Outdoors

Brandywine Battlefield State Park is nestled within the Brandywine Valley, and for those that visit it is almost possible to hear the sound of cannon fire. The park lies in the location of where in 1777, George Washington and the Continental Army suffered a defeat against British General William Howe. The park covers 52 acres and has a small museum which offers visitors the opportunity to walk through the rooms where Washington spent much of his time, and also admire artifacts from the battle.

One of the nearest parks to town is Ridley Creek State Park which encompasses more than 2606 acres of meadows and beautiful woodland. It provides a little oasis of open space in a largely urban area. Nature lovers can enjoy the trails, have a go at fly fishing, or have a spot of lunch at one of the numerous picnic tables outside your travel trailer rental from Chadds Ford. The 5-mile-long trail in the park is popular with cyclists and then cross-country skiers in the winter months.

Brandywine Creek State Park is also worth a visit in your motorhome rental from Chadds Ford, divided by grey stone walls that were built in the 1800s when the property was a dairy farm. Within the park are three nature reserves including Tulip Tree Woods and Freshwater Marsh, both of which are home to an abundance of wildlife and plant life. The park maintains various trails for fitness, photography and wildlife observations, making it a great place to see wildflowers, deer, hawks, songbirds, and a variety of other flora and fauna.
