Little is known about the first settlers who farmed the area that would become Kinzers. Most of these families were of German origin, and one of the descendants, Harry Kinzers, was a respected member of the community in the early 1800s. When the town residents decided to make their community official in 1835, they opted to name it after Harry Kinzers. To be precise, it was called Kinzer’s Town, but at some point in the mid-1900s, they dropped the apostrophe and shortened it to Kinzers.

Kinzers is in particular known for the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association, which has a splendid display of vintage farm equipment, tractors, and steam vehicles. The association regularly holds events, at which visitors can check out these old equipment (check online for the schedule). Fossil hunters also flock to Kinzers to search for Cambrian-era fossils. Commonly found fossils include trilobites, a particular type of arthropod found only in Pennsylvania, and a bivalve. Rock hounds should take care while hunting; the rocky outcropping is adjacent to an active railroad track. Find your ideal fun when you book an RV in Kinzers, PA, and set off on an amazing outdoor adventure with the family.

Discover Kinzers

The Great Outdoors

An amazing reason to rent an RV is to skip the hotel scene and get closer to nature. Although there are small pockets of wilderness near Kinzers, most larger parks with more opportunities for recreational fun are about 20 or more miles away. A Kinzer motorhome rental makes it a snap to explore them all. The Northwest Lancaster County River Trail, which is laid over an old towpath used to tow boats upstream, runs for over 14 miles, connecting Columbia to Falmouth. Although the paved trail might be considered tame by some hikers, the region can be hilly, adding some interest and challenge. With the wide river on one side and the dense, lush woods on the other, the path is quite scenic and will please many nature photographers.

French Creek State Park, when combined with the neighboring parks like Hopewell Big Woods and Crows Nest Preserve, encompasses nearly 100,000 acres of land. Around a hundred miles of trails wind and serpentine through the park, passing through dense woods, across open, airy meadows, and over babbling creeks. Hike, bike, swim, birdwatch, photograph, geocache, and fish in this park. In certain areas, deer and small hunting are allowed, though the park managers are quite strict about adhering to the bag limit. The park manager also runs a small boat rental service lending out canoes, rowboats, and kayaks. Be aware that while some campgrounds are dog-friendly, many trails prohibit them. Bring a Kinzer RV trailer rental. There are hookups available.

RV Parks

When you search for an RV rental, don’t forget to figure out where to park overnight. Out in the rural farmlands, public campgrounds are few and far in between. There are several private facilities, however. Right in Kinzer is Roamer’s Campground, which has 30 and 50 amps, a small laundry room, and a dump station.

White Oak Campground in Quarryville may be a good choice. Close to the Amish farmlands, guests have a choice of parking in an open field with a view of the neighboring farms or in the woods.

Country Acres Campground also is in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country. This facility bills itself as a luxury RV resort and includes features like free wifi and beach-style access to an outdoor pool. A fenced-in dog run and an on-site camp store are among the other perks. The facility also includes a free tour of the Amish farmlands.

Exploring the City

Out in the boonies, a motorhome rental from Kinzers makes exploring the countryside smoother and more painless. There are several attractions and fun activities. The Strasburg Railroad is America’s oldest still-operating railroad. The old-fashioned steam locomotive train offers a variety of cars to ride in, including Presidential, first class, coach, and even open-air cars. The Strasburg Railroad has several special events throughout the year, like recreating the infamous 1934 train robbery in which the dastardly duo Bonnie and Clyde robs the guests of their valuables. Guests embark from Strasburg on a 45- to 60-minute train ride, with a stop at Paradise to browse the boutique shops or watch the engineers turn the trains around. They then hop back on to return to Strasburg.

A common reason to grab a Kinzer RV rental is to explore the Amish countryside and learn about this culture. Amish and Mennonites are quite private and do not allow the English (their term for outsiders) to visit. However, the Amish Village, on the outskirts of Lancaster is a community in which the English are allowed to visit. The tour buses embark from the Village and take the passengers on a scenic drive around the countryside while the guide shares knowledge about the culture. It’s a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and get in-depth information. The Amish Village has a number of shops at which customers can purchase handcrafted wooden furniture, clothes, and baked goods. There’s nothing like freshly made baked bread and pies, shoofly pie and whoopie pies in particular.

As you roam the backcountry roads in a Kinzer RV rental and explore the lush green farmlands, be sure to watch out for the deer. They like to cross the road at the worst time.
