Discover Schuylkill Haven RV rentals for memorable road trips

Once the home of Lenape Native American (which were called the Delaware Indians by the English), Schuylkill Haven saw its first European settlers in early 1730s. The first known settler was John Fincher, who is considered to be the unofficial founder of this town. He received a land grant for 225 acres in 1750 and built a home and a barn near the Schuylkill River. The next known settler came 25 years later, in 1775. Martin Dreibelbis, a German immigrant, built a house, a saw-mill, distillery, and a grist mill. He later built a second home in what would become a part of the modern-day downtown area, and for this reason, he is considered the first official resident of the town.

The Great Outdoors

A common reason to book an RV in Schuylkill Haven would be to gain access to the Pennsylvania's outdoor without having to endure the discomfort that camping brings. Mosquitoes, rocky soil, and the lack of privacy. Though this area has been heavily farmed, there are several pockets of wilderness. Blue Mountain, a particular mountain ridge that often seems blue from a distance due to the perpetual humidity in the area, is just a few minutes away. There are several state game lands around in which hiking, biking, camping, and of course, hunting are popular activities. The two largest, No 80 and 264, encompasses a few thousand acres. Deer, bear, and small game, such as turkey, grouse, and rabbits, are typical bags. Be sure to check the schedule for the hunting seasons and wear blaze orange. Hunters are required to obtain the appropriate permits and gun licenses; Pennsylvania’s game managers are very strict and have been known to enact hefty fines for violations for going over the bag limit or for hunting without permits.

RV Parks

When you make arrangements to rent a motorhome in Schuylkill Haven, don’t forget to figure out where to park overnight. Gotta grab your 8 hours of Zs, after all. There are several campgrounds in the area, and some state game land parks allow overnight parking (check with the park management or rangers).

Exploring the City

Out in the boonies where the mountains loom, and towns are few and far in between, it’s easy to think that there isn’t much to do in the area. In fact, there are plenty of places to see and activities that one can partake in. A Schuylkill Haven camper rental makes it easy to get around and explore. Hawk Mountain is part a scientific research center, part a learning facility, part a wildlife sanctuary all wrapped up. Several species of raptors and bald eagles are residents who make their home on this mountain. The nonprofit organization, which owns the land, regularly holds workshops and weekend programs at which spectators can get close-up looks at raptors, falcons, and eagles. This park has several miles of trails, some of which are challenging but rewarding. Photographers and bird-watchers will have opportunities to observe them in their natural habitat. Heads up: there are trail fees which are put toward keeping the nonprofit running. Dogs are not permitted.

My family and I have been avid campers for several years, traditionally using tents — even this year with our newborn. However, we decided to try renting a camper for the first time, and after this experience, we can confidently say we won’t be going back to tent camping!

This RV is absolutely beautiful!! We rented it for a week for our family of 5 and I can’t say enough good things about it. First of all, Nick was a phenomenal host. He was so responsive to all of my questions and truly wonderful to work with. The RV is so easy to set up at the campground. In just a few minutes, you are ready to enjoy. The master bedroom bed was more comfortable than our one at home! Our kids loved it so much. There were lots of sleeping options for the 3 of them. The fridge and freezer are huge and the stove/microwave felt like such a camping luxury. This RV is basically brand new. I was also impressed with how fully equipped it was in terms of the kitchen items - no need to bring a thing. The shower was also a nice size for a camper! You will not regret booking this vehicle. We can’t wait for our next adventure.
