Getting Outdoors
Covering more than 1,200 acres, Lake Bonham provides plenty of opportunities for a day of secluded swimming, fishing, and boating. As well as the main expanse of water, Lake Bonham contains several long, thin and sheltered coves that provide a perfect environment for watercraft. Those motorhome camping with their own boat in tow can visit the recreational area to pick up a permit for their boat, while those without their own vessel can rent one here too! There are two boat launch ramps on the lake that are open all year round, the most accessible of which can be found at the Lake Bonham Recreation Area.
Camping at Lake Bonham
Lake Bonham Camping is possible thanks to the long-standing campground situated in the Lake Bonham Recreational Area. The campground here is made of 89 sites, most of which are tucked away into the pine trees. Electric and water hookups are available at every site; however, these are shared between sites and may require an extra-long hose for hookups. Many of the sites here are designed for smaller rigs and trailers, so do call ahead to make sure they have a spot to accommodate your rental RV.
Exploring the Area
Find out more about the much-loved Texan politician, Sam Rayburn, by heading to his birthplace in Bonham. There are two sites in town that are dedicated to exploring the life, death, and legacy of Sam Rayburn. The first of the two sites is the Sam Rayburn Museum, an impressive marble building that displays historic photographs and memorabilia as well as Rayburn’s extensive library collection. Follow this up with a visit to Sam Rayburn’s house, the place where he lived until the time of his death in 1961. Not much has been altered here since his death so visitors can explore the original furnishings and personal belongings of the man who dedicated his career to the US Congress.

This toy hauler was perfect for our annual camping trip. It was clean, spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The hosts communications, expectations and listing of the RV manual was excellent. Despite a minor fridge issue everything was great. We even had enough room for all 13 of us to play games at night! We will definitely be renting this again!
