Magnolia is within an hour’s drive of three local state parks, making it the ideal starting point for your Texas adventure. Stephen F. Austin State Park is located 50 miles southwest on the Brazos River. It’s an excellent place to go hiking, fishing or biking and there’s RV overnight camping available, with a store for stocking up on supplies.

Head north for about an hour in the Magnolia camper rental and you’ll arrive at Huntsville State Park, near Huntsville. Part of the Sam Houston National Forest, Huntsville is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the East Texas Pineywoods. With over 20 miles of trails to be explored, the park also offers nature studies, camping, hiking, biking, swimming, paddling, fishing and canoeing on the 210-acre Lake Raven. Fishing equipment can be borrowed for use within the park and you can rent paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. There’s also a boat ramp, fishing piers and fish cleaning stations. With over 150 campsites and a grocery store selling camping and fishing supplies, you’ll have everything you need right on site for a perfect getaway.

An hour’s drive east in your Magnolia rental camper brings you to the Sheldon Lake State Park and its Environmental Learning Center. The park is open daily and includes a self-guided nature trail that winds around 28 naturalized ponds containing local wildlife including alligators. Environmentally friendly building techniques and alternative energies are showcased at the pond center. The 82-foot John Jacob Observation Tower provides unparalleled views of the park’s lake and surrounding wetlands. The park is near to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site and the Battleship Texas State Historic Site, which are both well worth a detour.

Slightly farther out is Lake Livingston State Park, which is one of largest lakes in Texas, noted for its population of white bass. There are two fish cleaning stations, bank fishing, three boat ramps and a pier. You can stock up on snacks or fishing supplies in the park store, and there’s overnight RV camping available with full hookups.
