The Great Outdoors

Porter is a stone's throw from Lake Houston Wilderness Park, which hosts camping, hiking and horseback riding trails, kayaking and a nature center. It has wooden observation decks, where enthusiasts can view animals and the scenery from an elevation, an outdoor swimming pool, a dormitory-style hostel and is dog-friendly.

RV Parks

There are numerous parks and campgrounds to choose from (too many to list them all here) when seeking a place to plant the rental motorhome near Porter; a few parks are north towards Conroe, and a couple more are on US-105, at the foot of Sam Houston National Forest. Most, however, are clustered between Humble and Splendora. Porter RV Park and Smith Village RV Park are directly south of Porter itself. Just outside of Porter, the options include Cunningham Cove RV Park and RV Park of Kingwood.

Exploring The City

There is a good variety of food selections here in Porter, some based in locally owned and operated restaurants plus the usual selection of chain restaurants. When you rent an RV in Porter, you can find Japanese and Chinese outlets, Mexican and Italian, burger joints and even a donut shop if you are so inclined. Diners here have reported that the Mexican restaurants have a good selection of items you don't often see on a menu, and that the Mexican dishes represent the culture’s cuisine from the very south to the far north. Chile rellenos, chimichangas and menudo received especially high praise, and you can take the leftovers back to your Porter rental motorhome to be served up as lunch the next day.
