Discover Stonewall

The quaint community of Stonewall, Texas is located just outside Fredericksburg, north of San Antonio and west of Austin. This small town has a lot of history and is the birth and death place of Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States. The town was named for Stonewall Jackson, a famous military general during the Civil War.

While having a remarkable history for such a small place, Stonewall is also famous for having many unique wineries on offer, perfect if you'd enjoy a drink when you rent an RV in Stonewall. Stonewall is also known for its peaches; visitors can pick their own peaches from many designated spots.

The Great Outdoors

One of the big attractions in Stonewall is its relationship with President Lyndon B. Johnson. There is a state park and historic site dedicated to him. This state park is ideal if you're looking to explore the outdoors without leaving Stonewall, and there are plenty of recreational activities on offer, including fishing and hiking. There's a lot of wildlife here as well, and hikers might spot critters like bison and white-tailed deer. Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site also has a visitor's center and model lodge dedicated to teaching visitors about the life of Lyndon B. Johnson. This state park is ideal for anybody looking to learn more about this prominent American figure when they rent an RV in Stonewall.

Another great scenic spot to visit if you're considering an RV rental in Stonewall is the Pedernales Falls State Park. This state park features a winding river that cuts through limestone, giving the area some unique characteristics. Recreational activities include swimming, fishing, and kayaking. There are lots of hiking trails too, ranging in length from roughly five to ten miles with different difficulties to suit everybody.

If you're big on nature and love bird watching, then you might want to plan a trip to Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge when you rent an RV in Stonewall. The refuge consists of a mixture of woodlands and prairies, giving visitors some tremendous panoramic views across the landscape. There's plenty of wildlife too, and be sure to be on the lookout for the black-capped vireo and golden-cheeked warblers, two small songbirds on the verge of extinction and one of the main reasons for conservation efforts in the region.

RV Parks

Stonewall is a tiny place, so it doesn't offer many RV parks. However, one option that's available when you book an RV in Stonewall is Peach Country RV Park. This campground has about 50 gravel sites complete with full hookups. All these sites support 30 and 50 amp electric. There's also room for your big rig, with campsites that campers can pull through and extend their slide-outs. Essential amenities are on-site, including restrooms, laundry, and Wi-Fi.

If you're looking for something close to Stonewall, then neighboring Fredericksburg has a few campgrounds on offer, including Fredericksburg RV Park. This park is slightly bigger than Peach Country, with over 100 all-weather sites, all of which have full hookups that support 30 and 50 amp electric. This park also supports big rigs with spacious pull-through sites. This park is very similar to Peach Country RV Park other than its location, and either could be a good choice when you book a campervan rental in Stonewall.

Exploring the City

Being a sleepy town with a small population, Stonewall only offers the basics, such as groceries and gas; however, there are many excellent wineries which offer tastings. Anything extravagant can be found in the surrounding area, with Fredericksburg very close by and San Antonio not far south. A great family excursion is to the Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels. This zoo offers a decent selection of rescued creatures, including jaguars, lemurs, and of course, a vast range of colorful snakes. Visitors can also book encounters with individual animals, including adorable fennec foxes and curious striped skunks.

If you're looking for something historical, then a short drive into Fredericksburg will take you to the National Museum of the Pacific War. Claiming to be the only museum in the country that deals specifically with the Pacific War, this museum is home to a wide array of World War II memorabilia and artifacts. There's also an exhibit which tries to recreate battlegrounds, complete with restored tanks, battlements, and trenches. This museum is a must-see for any history buff when you rent a camper in Stonewall.

If you're looking to cool off after hiking around in the heat of the Texas sun, then consider a visit to the waterpark near San Antonio. Perfect for families and thrill-seekers, the park contains plenty of winding waterslides for all ages. There's also a splash zone for the kids and lazy river for the adults. This waterpark offers family-friendly fun and something a bit different when you have a travel trailer rental in Stonewall.
