Getting Outdoors

While Bluestone Lake’s main purpose is providing Summers County with flood control and water level stability, it’s hard to pass up a great spot like this for some recreational use. The lake offers 2,040 acres of water surface area for swimming, boating, waterskiing, and really anything else you can think of within reason. Fishing is allowed but always check for any specific rules and regulations. There are beach portions that are a fun space for sunbathing and appropriate lawn-type games.

Camping at Bluestone Lake

Bluestone Lake campers will be elated to hear RVs are totally allowed to spend the night near the lake in Bluestone State Park. The campgrounds are open seasonally spring through fall, and reservations are encouraged. Meador Campground and Old Mill Campground, specifically, allow RVs. Meador has a select number of sites with electric and water hookups and others with only electric. Old Mill, on the other hand, is rustic; no hookups here, so plan accordingly if this campground is calling to you.

Exploring the Area

Hinton, WV, is a small railroad town, and trains are still very much in use. The downtown alone features over 200 historic buildings, including both the iconic courthouse and train station. The railroad industry was such an important part of Hinton’s early start; the town has a whole museum dedicated to it. If you fancy a little entertainment, the original theater built-in 1929 is still in full functional use today with some modern upgrades, of course. The people are cheery, the food is delicious, and the vibe is relaxed.

Fantastic first experience with a camper van! When we found out that our original rental was not going to be available, Doug and Lisa were able to step in and provide everything that we needed within a very short timeframe. They were very gracious hosts and patiently answered all of our questions. We felt supported throughout our travels and would highly recommend them.

Great rental! Douglas and his wife gave us a complete and thorough walk thru on all the systems and operation of the van. Since we didn't have much RV experience they were very patient and answered all our questions. The camper was great with everything working perfectly. They also equipped it with everything you need for your trip. The van handles wonderfully. Easy to drive and get in and out of normal parking situations. Our check in was simple and fast. If you want an easy to drive, turn key RV experience this is a perfect choice.

I couldn't have asked for a better RV experience than what we had with our group and "The Hawk". From the very beginning, Leslie was an amazing host from the very beginning. She was always available and responsive to answer any questions or concerns we had. Brian met us at the RV the morning of pickup and his knowledge of the systems and features of this vehicle made the walkthrough very informative and thorough. He spent as much time as we wanted showing us how to operate everything, making for a seamless weekend.
