"Take a Hike"

Travel trailerWhite Marsh, MD
Sleeps 4
13 ft. long
Pet friendly

"Take a Hike" is a brand new lightweight Travel Trailer. It was ordered and custom designed with the back to basics camper in mind. I have rented small fully equipped RVs for two years and a segment of campers were being left out. Renters were not taking advantage of many features the campers had just because they didn't want to bother with some of the chores required at the end of the trip.
Another important thing was that many ex tent campers wanted to try an RV but their tow vehicle was not up to even pulling a small 3,000 pound Trailer because they needed a vehicle capable of 5,000 pounds including cargo. Think of the weight that could be eliminated if we deleted all the things not used and only included the absolutely necessary items.
The Travel Trailer I was looking for was the "Scamp". It is well made and the owners worshiped them. It has been around and on the road longer than most other RVs because it fits a niche market just like the one I want to rent too.
"Take a Hike" can be pulled by almost any car that allows towing. It weighs only 1600 pounds, which is less than most pop ups. You only need a class II hitch but I still had it equipped with brakes for extra stopping power and safety. I got a special stove top that is recessed to give back counter space. It is small so an over blown propane furnace was replaced by small space heater. Eliminated propane water heater and will install an inline electric. Greywater tank is small and portable and can be carried and dumped at the campground dump. Wet shower was eliminated to get in more sitting room which can be converted to two small bunks. Two adults - two children. There is still a small concealed campers portable toilet that can be used if necessary. A screened outdoor shelter will be included, along with electric fry pan, toaster oven, pots and pans, and necessary cooking utensils. Many more pictures will soon we posted. All you need will be, paper plates and groceries.
What's includedYou must provide your own bedding, pillows, bath towels. I recommend really light sleeping bags or bag liners like at a hostel. There is always a roll of paper towelsRecommendationsI've had it several times to Jefferson National Forest in SW Virginia. Other things to notePets are welcome but must stay on the floor and never be left unattended, even for a minute. There is another sections for FAQs. I highly suggest that you reread this campers description and the FAQs. It should be all the information you need, to be sure that this RV is compatible with your tow vehicle. If you don't know check with an expert source. The main item that causes a problem is the 7 pin RV plug. This is not a "Uhaul". So the 4 pin plug will not work for battery and brakes. No brakes or battery charge no rental. If your question is still not resolved send me a message and do not wait until the day before your trip. I want us to do a complete orientation and hook up in 2 hours and off you go.

Have a question?Get answers directly from the host

Q.Will you provide the hitch ball
A.
Tow vehicle must have a hitch receiver either class II or III installed. I will provide the proper ball size on a mount for their receiver.

Q.What wiring is necessary.
A.
The tow Vehicle MUST have the seven pin RV Plug with tail light, turn signals, brake lights working plus it MUST have the 12 Volt Aux wire working that charges the battery. It does not need the brake wire or brake controller. I will also supply that. If any questions reach out to me.

Q.How did you decide on the name "Take a Hike"
A.
I'm 73 years old. Already prostate problems 12 years ago. No bath room in camper in middle of night. Camp toilet is 80 yards away. Think about it. Ya gotta take a hike. Trailer is however equiped with a portable toilet like tenters use.

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
We can schedule times that are good for both of us. Once scheduled we need to be prompt ,on time. I need to travel to get to the storage center. I will allow 1/2 hour in case the renter has traffic problems. After 1/2 hour I will bill the Security deposit $30.00 per hour.
