Gile Flowage is considered a world-class location for fishing smallmouth bass and is also the location of Wisconsin’s state record for black crappie, caught here in 1967. The lake also has an abundant number of muskie, northern pike, walleye, and bluegill. Whether Gile Flowage campers fish from the extensive shoreline or a boat out on the water, successful fishing is almost a certain here.

Exploring The Area

While camping in Iron County, a trip to the Iron County Historical Museum is a must. Built-in 1893, the museum building was originally the town hall for the now-extinct town of Vaughn, then was handed over as the Iron County's official court. Today the museum offers three floors of exhibits, presenting everything from the history of iron mining, the building of the railroads, to local veterans of America’s wars. The museum also shows visitors a vast collection of photographs spanning the past century. This is a must-visit museum for anyone in the Iron County area.
