Tettegouche State Park occupies almost 10,000 acres and immerses you in the natural beauty of the North Star State. Getting Outdoors

Camping at Tettegouche State Park offers a unique chance visit High Falls, one of the biggest waterfalls in Minnesota. It plummets 70 feet down a rocky ravine in the Baptism River and can be accessed via an easy hiking trail. Admire the falls from the elevated wooden viewing platform or head down to the riverbed and dip your toes in the crystalline water.

There are plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs in Tettegouche State Park, with more than 20 miles of well-marked hiking trails to explore, including a stretch of the iconic Superior Hiking Trail. The views are incredible and take you to lakeside cliffs, sandy beaches and picturesque shorelines. The clifftop Shovel Point trail is deservedly popular, rewarding you with sweeping views over Lake Superior. Keep an eye out for peregrine falcons nesting in the cliffsides. If you like a faster pace Tettegouche also offers dedicated mountain biking and ATV riding trails. The park also boasts some of the best rock climbing routes in the Midwest.

Things don't slow down in the winter, when Tettegouche transforms into a snow-dusted wonderland. Camping at Tettegouche State Park

Tettegouche State Park camping offers a unique chance to sleep under the Minnesota stars. The campground enjoys a serene forest setting and offers 28 drive-in sites, most with plenty of privacy. Tettegouche offers all the creature comforts you'd expect from well-maintained state park RV campgrounds, including electrical hookups of up to 50 amp, hot showers and flush toilets. You'll also have access to drinking water and a dump station. Pets are welcome, just be sure to keep your dog leashed.

There's a length limit of 60 feet when camping with an RV so don't be shy about renting a bigger rig. Take advantage of your RV kitchen facilities or maximize your time in nature and make use of your picnic table, grill and fire ring. It's best to purchase firewood sold at the park to avoid contamination. Planning a winter getaway? Tettegouche offers year-round state park RV camping, though services are limited with no drinking water or dump station available.

Exploring the Area

Experience the majesty of Lake Superior on a scenic boat cruise departing from Silver Bay Marina. You'll get a whole new perspective on local landmarks like Split Rock Lighthouse, Shovel Point and Palisade Head. If you're always on the lookout for golfing opportunities don't miss the chance to tee off at Silver Bay, a nine-hole, par 36 course set amid forested hills and the Beaver River.

A 10-minute drive from the park, Finland recalls the region's European heritage. Visit the John Pine pioneer homestead to learn about the town's Finnish roots and head to the historic Trestle Inn for a hearty meal and cozy ambience. For more hiking opportunities check out the family-friendly Moose Walk Trail that skirts the Sawtooth Mountains and takes you through spruce, pine and maple forests. If you prefer exploring on four wheels a cruise along the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway unlocks stunning views.

Need to stock up on supplies? The port city of Duluth is a one-hour drive south and offers gas stations and grocery stores. It boasts a dramatic cliffside setting and is also a great place to discover the region's rich heritage. Learn about Great Lakes shipwrecks at the Maritime Visitor Center, visit Bob Dylan's Birthplace and take in sweeping skyline views from the top of Enger Tower. In summer, Leif Erikson park screens free outdoor movies on Friday nights – perfect if you're looking to escape your campsite for the evening.
