As you'd expect from a beachfront park, much of the activity in Henderson Beach State Park takes place either on the sand or in the water. The pristine white-sand beach stretches for more than a mile along the Gulf of Mexico. Some campers like nothing more than laying down a towel and stretching out to soak up some of that famous Florida sun. Others, however, prefer to take a dip in the beautiful warm waters of the Gulf. Fishing is another popular pastime in the park, and the nearby city of Destin is world-famous for its fishing. However, you'll need a fishing license before you can wet a line, and you'll also need to make sure you comply with all park rules surrounding the size and number of fish you catch, as well as how and when you catch them. When you're not enjoying the water sports on offer in Henderson Beach State Park, you might want to tackle the three-quarter-mile nature trail that winds through the park. Easily accessible from the campground, the trail leads hikers through ancient, 30-foot-high sand dunes and the surrounding coastal scrub.
