Getting Outdoors

It goes without saying that the best place to begin your Grayton Beach State Park RV camping adventure is at the beach. This one-mile stretch of Gulf of Mexico sand is described as "sugar white", and if you step onto the beach on a sunny day, you'll immediately realize just how apt this description is.

For many visitors, the simple act of stepping onto the beach and gazing out at the ocean is all they need to relax. For others, the best way to experience the area is to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy some beachcombing, or maybe lay out a towel and then relax in the warm sun with a good book.

If the weather permits, you might want to don your swimsuit and take a dip. Swimming is permitted right along the beach, but please be aware that there are no lifeguards, so you'll be entering the water at your own risk.

Fishing is another popular pastime in Grayton Beach State Park. Surf fishing can be done right from the beach, while those who want to launch a boat to cast a line can do so on Western Lake. The 100-acre lake boasts bass, bream, trout, and several other species, but make sure you have an appropriate fishing license before casting a line.

The lake's still waters are also popular with paddlers in canoes and kayaks. You can bring your own craft or rent one from the ranger station, and then enjoy a peaceful paddle in pristine surroundings.

But if you'd rather go exploring on foot, the park also has more than four miles of hiking trails. There's a one-mile nature trail near the beach that leads walkers through the dune system and along the salt marsh, and it's pretty easy going if you're traveling with kids. For those looking for more of a challenge, the 4.5-mile trail (note: the round trip is nine miles) that leads through the forest and around Western Lake can be tackled on bike or on foot.

Finally, don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for rare wildlife while you're out and about. Bald eagles, ospreys, Florida black bears, grey foxes, and more all call the park home, so there's no telling what sort of creatures you might spot along the way.

Camping at Grayton Beach State Park

If you want to camp with an RV at Grayton Beach State Park, you can park your rig in the 59-site campground. Located near Western Lake, this pretty campground offers a quiet, relaxed atmosphere along with all the amenities you'll need during your stay.

All campsites have electric and water hookups, with a small number also boasting sewer hookups. Four sites are accessible for people with disabilities, and clean restrooms and showers are provided. A dump station is also provided, but the maximum RV length in this campground is 40 feet.

Picnic tables and grills are available for campers, while there's also a boat launch ramp on the lake for those who want to get out on the water. And if you're traveling with your canine companion, leashed and well-behaved pets are more than welcome.

Exploring the Area

There's so much to love about Grayton Beach State Park that you'll no doubt want to stay a while. But once you're ready to move on, you won't have to drive your rental RV far before you find plenty of other destinations worth visiting.

Take a short drive to the west and you'll find yourself amid the beautiful coastal scenery and excellent fishing of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, while the gorgeous coastline of Panama City Beach is just a 30-mile drive to the southeast. And with the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum just an hour-and-a-half away, there are plenty of other attractions and amenities close by.

Northwestern Florida offers a diverse range of experiences and activities for RV campers, so rent an RV near Grayton Beach State Park and head out on a relaxing coastal getaway.
