RV Rental Kettletown State Park, CT

When you’re finally up for an adventure RV camping at Kettletown State Park, you’ll be spoilt for choice over the sheer number of things to do. One thing to remember packing in your campervan at home is your fishing rod as the freshwater fishing here is fabulous. After you find a fine spot to drop a line, some of the fish to look out for include the largemouth bass, yellow perch, and the white bullhead.

If you’re lucky enough to have a kayak strapped onto your travel trailer, you’ll be glad to know that paddling along the shoreline of Lake Zoar is immensely relaxing. With a lakeshore that spans for about ten miles, the bluish-green waters of the lake are guaranteed to offer hours of fun even without wandering far from the campground. With no sign of civilization other than an occasional motorboat roaring past, it doubles up as a great place to meditate.

There are several options in the park as far as hiking is concerned. If the kids tagged along, the William Miller Trail was made just for that. The relatively short hike meanders through long trees with various chirping birds to an awe-inspiring overlook offering wonderful views of the Housatonic River. Take extra care when approaching the overlooks, especially if you’ve got some kiddos with you. If the trail is a walk in the park, spare some time and hit the Crest Trail. Unless you’re in top shape, don’t attempt the whole trail.

The park might seem small when compared to other parks in the state, but it packs a punch when it comes to the camping experience it offers. Even though pets and alcohol aren’t permitted, the advantages outweigh the letdowns. The ample sized pull-thru sites are set up in a heavily shaded area and work fine if you’re interested in practicing some dry camping as hookups aren’t provided. You’ll, however, have access to water spigots spread throughout the park.

The kid-friendly campground offers free movies for children, and occasional ice cream truck might pop-up. The park does not offer WiFi, but the mobile connection to all major carriers is surprisingly good. Restroom and shower facilities are available, and since you’ll be sharing the space with animals such as skunks and raccoons, store all food carefully.

When your time camping with an RV here is almost over, check out the neighboring attractions. Featuring kiddie rides, waterslides, and a junior roller coaster, the Quassy Amusement, and Waterpark is hands down one of the best family hangout spots in Southbury. The town also hosts a fantastic juice shop that serves fabulous smoothies and salads.

Don’t leave the area before enjoying a day spent at New Haven. After a fun time in the cool waters of the Atlantic at Seabluff Beach, take a short drive to Lighthouse Point Park for some photos of the 1847 lighthouse before a game of golf in one of the town’s many courses.

If time allows, hop into Waterbury and have a go at the skating rink at Roller Magic Waterbury Skating Center. Art buffs will fill right at home at the Mattatuck Museum, which highlights the cultural heritage of Connecticut. Be sure to come hungry as the town is home to loads of fine eateries set on offering a memorable gastronomical experience.
