Discover Ijamsville RV rentals for memorable road trips

The area that would become Ijamsville was farmed for nearly a century before a man named Plummer Ijams purchased several acres in 1785. The family of Plummer Ijams, a second-generation American, was originally from Wales, the land of weird names. Ijams and his children, Plummer Jr and John, worked the land, and later, built a grist mill (flour mill) to harvest and refine their wheat crops, rather than outsource it. When a rich vein of slate was discovered nearby, mining and quarry enterprises popped up, and the settlement began to grow.

The Great Outdoors

A common reason to book an RV in Ijamsville, MD, is to gain access to dozens of wilderness parks in the area. Of all the parks within 30 miles, the largest is actually a collection of state parks lined up like beads on a string, atop the South Mountain ridge. South Mountain, Greenbrier, Washington Monument, and Gathland State Parks collectively make up nearly 75,000 acres of pure wilderness. Between the Appalachian Trail (AT), which follows the ridgeline, and the tertiary trails, there are over 100 miles of multi-use trails. Hike, bike, and horseback ride. Some sections of the AT are challenging but rewarding. Determined hikers are rewarded with a sweeping view of the valleys to the west and east. On a clear day, people who ascend the Weverton Cliffs can not only see the valley on the Virginia side but also West Virginia’s Harper Ferry.

RV Parks

When searching for an RV rental, also consider where you’ll park overnight. Although this area is rural, street parking is frowned upon. There are a number of campgrounds, both public and private, in the area. The Little Bennett Campground near Clarksburg, has full hookups and easy access to fishing streams and hiking trails. Space for RVs, however, is limited. Book well in advance, particularly in the summer months.

Exploring the City

As rural as this part of the state is, there’s plenty of things to do and places to see. An Ijamsville RV rental makes it easy to get around the countryside. Escape the humidity and swing by the Adventure Park USA in Monrovia. The family-friendly arcade/amusement park is chock full of fun for both kids and adults alike. Laser tag, climbing wall, mini golf, and even twisty, wild roller coaster rides.
