Discover North East

The Great Outdoors

North East is a spectacular place to spend time outdoors exploring and soaking in the magnificent views of the Chesapeake Bay. One place that allows visitors to do just that is Elk Neck State Park. The park encompasses 2,370 acres of varied landscape including densely forested areas, marshlands, white clay cliffs, and sandy shorelines. Visitors can enjoy 12 miles of scenic hiking trails, boating opportunities, a swimming area, and camping facilities.

Another place to check out when you book a motorhome rental in North East is Susquehanna State Park in Havre de Grace. On the northwest banks of Chesapeake Bay, Susquehanna State Park is home to some of Maryland’s best and most popular mountain biking trails and over 15 miles of hiking trails. History fanatics will be attracted to the Rock Run Historic Area featuring a functioning gristmill, the Carter-Archer Mansion, the Jersey Toll House, and what remains of the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal. Located along the Susquehanna River, the park also offers opportunities for fishing and boating. If you book an RV rental in North East, Maryland, this park is definitely worth visiting.

But if you’re up for a less-structured outdoors experience, go wandering in Elk Neck State Forest. Just a bit north of Elk Neck State Park, the state forest features over 3,500 acres of rolling hills, wooded flatlands, and marshlands. The forest boasts more than 28 miles of hiking trails, hunting opportunities, and ranges for archery, handgun, and rifle shooting.

RV Park

Though there isn’t a very large concentration of RV parks in North East, there are several scattered around the northern shores of Chesapeake Bay. One option when you book a camper rental in North East is Woodlands Camping Resort in Elkton. The campground has various full hook-up sites nestled in the center of Elk Neck State Forest. The RV park has several amenities including a fishing pond, a large seasonal swimming pool, a small camp store, a playground, and a covered picnic facility. Guests also have access to a 24-hour bathhouse, basketball courts, and several multi-purpose trails scattered throughout the campground.

You can also consider staying at Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina in Abingdon. The waterfront campground has several sites right on the water’s edge and some a farther back in the woods. Interested in boating? The campground marina offers kayak, paddleboat, and paddleboard rentals as well as boat docks and slips. Each site has full hookups as well as concrete patios and fire rings. Other amenities include a tot lot and camp store with fuel, gas, and other items.

Exploring the City

Completed in 1833, Turkey Point Lighthouse is a 35-foot tall lighthouse on the northern banks of Chesapeake Bay. Though not very impressive in height, the lighthouse is built atop a 100-foot bluff, making it one of the tallest lighthouses on the shores of the Bay. Today, Turkey Point is managed by Elk Neck State Park. During the operational season, visitors can climb the stairwell to the top of the light tower. Otherwise, views of the bay and surrounding area can be enjoyed from the bluff.

Another point of interest when you rent a motorhome in North East is Upper Bay Museum. The goal of this museum is to preserve the lifestyle of watermen and hunters working around the waters of upper Chesapeake Bay. The museum’s exhibits include various hunting, boating, and fishing artifacts traditionally used by those living in the Upper Chesapeake Bay. Visitors can also track the progression of watercraft used in the Bay through displays of model boats, fishing nets, and a large collection of marine engines. Learn more about the history up North East by exploring the area’s marine past.

If you’re in the mood for some local wine, be sure to stop by a nearby winery when you search for an RV in Cecil County. You can visit the vineyard’s tasting room minutes from the beautiful shores of Chesapeake Bay.
