Saranac can trace its roots back to 1836 when a local judge purchased the land and sold parts off to incoming residents who not only settled there but helped to shape the town into what it is today. There were many businesses started in Saranac, some that succeeded, and its central location in the state helped it grow. Book an RV rental in Saranac as a convenient way to explore central Michigan since the city is conveniently located near to Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Battle Creek.

It wasn’t until 1857 that train lines were connected to Saranac, but the influx of business and connections to local towns definitely helped the town out. One apparent thing you’ll notice when you rent a motorhome in Saranac is that a lot of the buildings and houses date back over 100 years, many of which have been restored.

The Great Outdoors

Michigan is absolutely well known for its extensive forests, green space, and many bodies of water and the region surrounding Saranac are not an exception to this rule. One of the nearest attractions is Grand River, which runs right through town. After you find the best RV rental in Saranac the river is a very short commute away and offers opportunities for fishing and swimming, depending on the weather.

Another close outdoor attraction is the Bertha Brock Park, which is located a few miles northeast of town. This small park isn’t extensive, but still has plenty of fun attractions to offer to guests who wish to visit. There are forests in the park that are nice to hike through, a road to access different parts of the park, and even a small creek that runs through it and helps diversify the wildlife that live in the area.

To the west is Lake Michigan, a great place to check out in your motorhome rental from Saranac. Being one of the Great Lakes is reason enough to visit, and guests at the lake can participate in almost every water activity, including boating, fishing, swimming, and more. In between Lake Michigan and the city is the Lowell State Game Area, a great place to pull off for a picnic or a quick hike.

Depending on what part of the country you are traveling from to enjoy your RV rental from Saranac, you may be pleasantly surprised with how many trees there are everywhere in Michigan. Even if you don’t find time to explore a specific park or lake, you’ll still be surrounded by trees and green space nearly everywhere you go.

RV Parks

RV park selections surrounding Saranac are a bit limited, but there are absolutely parks nearby if you are willing to drive a short while. To the east, there are a collection of basic RV parks that offer standard amenities like power, water, and sewage hookups. These RV parks also have a selection of RV pads and pull through sites to choose from. Unfortunately, these RV parks don’t have anything outstanding in terms of amenities, but the surrounding nature is a nice bonus.

To the west, there are two options for parking your RV. First, there are a few Walmart Supercenters located around Grand Rapids, and after inquiring with management at the store, you may be able to park there overnight. There are also a few smaller RV parks around Grand Rapids, and although they are a bit further of a drive from Saranac, they have more amenities to offer for guests who stay at them. Some of the RV parks around Grand Rapids offer showers, laundry, and there is even one that has a pool and playground.

Exploring the City

Saranac isn’t far from Grand Rapids, and because of this, it has never grown into a large town full of big city amenities. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it still maintains its small-town charm that many large cities lack. Depending on the time of year that you arrange for a travel trailer rental in Saranac, there are different entertainment options for you right in town. If the weather is nice, a stroll through Scheid Park is a great way to stretch your legs if you’ve been cooped up in a vehicle all day.

Near to Scheid Park is the center of town, which is South Bridge Street, and on this street, you’ll find a collection of local restaurants that are worth checking out. There is a local cafe, a local ice cream boutique, a pizza place, and a restaurant that serves some classic Michigan food. On the same street, but north of town, you’ll find fuel stations that are RV friendly at the Bluewater Highway junction. There is a great selection west in Grand Rapids or east in Ionia if the selection in Saranac isn't to your liking.

For those who are interested in the history of Saranac and the surrounding region, they should visit the Boston-Saranac Historical Society. This historical museum is packed full of artifacts, stories, and knowledgeable staff who can share with guests the answers to any questions about the area that might arise. The museum does have limited hours, so be sure to contact them ahead of time so that when you cruise over in your camper rental in Saranac, your visit is during their times of operation.
