Discover Berkeley Heights

The Great Outdoors

Book a campervan rental in Berkeley Heights and head to the Watchung Reservation, which lies along the eastern edge of the township. It sprawls between the First Watchung and Second Watchung Mountains, with numerous hiking and horseback riding trails to explore. Cast a fishing line to see what’s biting in Lake Surprise, let the kids run loose in the Loop Playground recreational area, or learn about the local ecology at the Trailside Nature & Science Center.

Drive in the other direction, and you’ll arrive at the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, which provides an important resting area for more than 200 bird species. The 7,800-acre tract includes a vast swamp where migratory birds come to refuel during their long journey along the eastern United States. Aside from birdwatching, the refuge is also home to deer, foxes, raccoons, and muskrats that can be spotted along the refuge’s hiking trails.

A short drive west of Berkeley Heights is the Passaic River County Park, which sprawls along 5,000 feet of protected riverbank. It’s a popular recreational hub in the county, with hiking, freshwater fishing, and canoeing all on offer. If you’re visiting during the colder months, the park transforms into a winter wonderland where you can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

RV Parks

Pick up your motorhome rental in Berkeley Heights and book a spot at the Liberty Harbor RV Park, which lies on the doorstep of New York City. Pull into one of their 50 RV sites to soak up the views towards the NYC skyline while taking advantage of the complimentary Wi-Fi, on-site laundry facility, and a restaurant.

If you hold a military ID, you can also book a site at the Navy Earle MWR RV Park which features just 15 campsites on the military base. Aside from using the park’s 20, 30 and 50-amp service RV facilities, guests are welcome to participate in a range of activities organized by the base.
