Those who wish to go camping at Washington Valley Park might be disappointed to hear that the park doesn’t have camping facilities. However, they could still find a comfortable place nearby. Jugtown Mountain Campsites is just a short drive away from Washington Valley Park and has all the basic amenities one might need during a motorhome camping trip. The campground features 50 sites for long vehicles and RVs. All of them have electric hookups with 30 and 50-amp power. The sites are spacious and private, and each has a picnic table. Pets are welcome here as long as the owners keep them on a leash while outside. The campground is open all year round, and usually busy in summer and fall. Campers who are planning a trip at this time should contact the campground’s office first and reserve their spot.

Named after England’s Somerset, Somerville is a charming community in central New Jersey. The city is surrounded by breathtaking nature, and it is a favorite stop for many outdoorsy people who pass through the area. Somerville has several interesting locations that are worth seeing, especially if this is your first time visiting this place. One of them is the Somerville Fire Department Museum. Somerville had one of the earliest fire departments in the country. Records show that it dates back to 1835. The museum’s permanent exhibit features old fire trucks, equipment, and other documents related to this fire department. Visitors are free to tour the museum on their own and learn more about the everyday challenges of firemen in the 19th century. The Wallace House is another favorite among Somerville’s visitors. This Gregorian style house was used by General George Washington in the winter of 1778-1779. It served as the headquarters during the second Middlebrook encampment. Several families lived at the house in the following decades, but the Revolutionary Memorial Society soon recognized the significance of this location. They purchased the property in 1896, and the house became a museum the following year. The Wallace House was given to the State of New Jersey in 1947 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Today, history buffs may enter the house and see the well-preserved interiors. Some of the original pieces of furniture are still inside. It is an interesting piece of history that tells a fascinating story of the fight for independence. Downtown Somerville is lined with old and historical buildings. Main Street is the place to be if you want to do some shopping or purchase antiques. Even though Somerville is not a large place, the city has some of the best international restaurants around. Visitors camping with an RV nearby could buy food and other camping supplies at one of the stores on Main Street. New Jersey’s countryside is sometimes overlooked by tourists, but if you want to see more of this glorious state, take a scenic drive north to Paterson.
