Formerly known as “Raritan,” the community saw settlers in the area as early as the mid-1700s. Thomas Edison, the very one known for inventing a lightbulb, phonograph, and many other gadgets, set up his lab and home in the area in the late 1800s. He became known as the “Wizard of Menlo Park.” After his death in 1931, the town, needing to change its name to avoid confusion with an identically named town elsewhere in New Jersey, chose “Edison” to honor the prolific inventor.

The Great Outdoors
This close to the Big Apple, suburban and bedroom communities seem to take up every square inch of northern New Jersey. However, there are several small wilderness parks dotting the area, and an Edison RV rental makes it easy to find them. The closest, Dismal Swamp is nicknamed the Everglades of New Jersey. It’s one of the last few wetlands in an urban location. Hundreds of different species of birds and wildlife make their homes in this park, such as green herons, endangered American bitterns, and endangered loggerhead shrikes. Though unofficially confirmed, sightings of the endangered grasshopper sparrows have been reported. Hikers, nature lovers, and photographers will enjoy this destination.

Jordan was a pleasure to rent from!! We traveled as a family of three adults and a small dog and had a fantastic time with Sam’s RV! The van was the perfect size—large enough for all of us to be comfortable, yet small enough to easily drive around and park in U.S. towns.
Sam was a wonderful host! He was very accommodating, which we truly appreciated, and always responded quickly, making the whole process seamless. The RV itself was fully stocked with everything we could possibly need and more—pots and pans, bedding, even camping chairs! It was also great on gas.

The best parts of our trip are the amazing memories we made together. The camper was better than I expected. The 3 of us had such a great time. The only thing was we should have stayed camping longer we had so much fun. Tony was an amazing host! He helped us every step of the way and answered any questions we had. We can’t wait to book again
