RV camping at Beltzville State Park is a delight for anglers. The lake and creek are stocked with both warm-water and cold-water fish. Cast your fishing rod into the lake for striped bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, perch, and muskellunge. If you’re keen on trout fishing, head to the Pohopocco Creek that is regularly stocked with trout. For winter visitors, ice fishing is an option too, though limited to certain areas of the lake. A valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required to fish here. 

With a maximum boating speed of 45 miles per hour, pleasure boating is sought after at Beltzville State Park. Canoes, kayaks, pontoon boats, fishing boats, water, and jet skis are permitted on the lake, and there is a two-lane boat-launch ramp on the south shore and another public boat-launch ramp on the north shore of the lake. 

There’s a beautiful sandy swimming beach open to swimmers from May to September, and the beach area is equipped with a bathhouse, showers, a food stand, and a first aid building. 

With 15 miles of trails to explore during your RV rental vacation, hiking is an enjoyable activity at Beltzville State Park. The trails within the park meander through old woods and along the banks of small streams. 

Camping at Beltzville State Park  

Since Beltzville State Park is a day-use recreational facility, RV camping is available close to the park. About 8 miles from the park is the Don Laine Family Campground in Palmerton. There are 180 campsites available, and campground features include pull-thru sites, tent camping, full hookups, 30 and 50 amp electric service, sewer, water, a dump station, central water spigot, and limited cell phone coverage. Campers have access to restrooms, shower stalls, laundry facilities, a camp store for last-minute camping essentials, a clubhouse, and a café. There is also a swimming pool and a playground where kids can run around and plenty of recreational opportunities for the family, including a recreation room, fishing, biking, boating, golf, and outdoor courts. Bring your furry friends along to this pet-friendly campground. 

When you’re looking for a place to camp in an RV near Beltzville State Park drive to the Lehigh Gorge Campground in White Haven, about 26 miles from the park. It has over 160 campsites, and amenities at the campground include pull-thru sites, big rig access, tent camping, full hookups, 20 and 30 amp electric service, water, sewer, a dump station, WiFi, and cell phone coverage. There are restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and a camp store. Let the kids have a blast in the swimming pool and at the playground. Explore the recreational trails or go fishing in the lake. Pets are welcome at this pet-friendly campground. 

Exploring the Area

Carbon County campers have plenty to explore in the areas around Beltzville State Park. The town of Jim Thorpe is just over eight miles from the state park and has incredible historical relevance that’s worth exploring. Highlighting the coal mining history of the area along with the sporting prowess of its namesake and Native American athlete Jim Thorpe, this town is a delight. 

The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway offers visitors a taste of the scenic surroundings of the Pocono Mountains. Hop on a 70-minute tour that takes place on a diesel engine train and traverses through the Lehigh Gorge State Park, allowing you to marvel at the cliffs, mountains, and stunning wildlife, all while listening to the history of the railroad. 

Stop by at the Old Jail Museum, a two-story structure that achieved acclaim in the Molly Maguire trials. Tour the jail that’s been converted into a museum and get to know its history. 

Drive-in your Carbon County camper rental to the Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary for a day out in the sun and amid colorful butterflies. The sanctuary is also home to several species of fish and frogs. Take the kids to the education center to learn about the varieties of butterflies found in the sanctuary. 

Get a taste of the local culture at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. This art center brings to the fore the unique culture of this town through its many exhibits and performances that are conducted regularly at the center.
