The town of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania sits on the edge of Philadelphia and in the center of the suburban area known as the Main Line. Its name means “big hill” in Welsh, thanks to the large prominence that the famous and eponymously named women’s college sits on. Bryn Mawr College was opened in the late 1800s by Quakers and was one of the first universities in America to grant graduate degrees to women. It’s now one of famed Seven Sisters Schools – an elite group of northeastern liberal arts colleges.
