Getting Outdoors

Running through the heart of Evansburg State Park is Skippack Creek. This river runs for over fifteen miles winding its way through the county and the core of the park. Eager fishermen and women will be hard-pressed to find a more idyllic fishing spot than on the banks of this picturesque creek. Evansburg State Park campers can attempt to catch a wide variety of fish species that are stocked the creek annually. These include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, carp, eel, and many different kinds of trout. This myriad of fish species will have anglers returning to Skippack Creek and Evansburg State Park season after season.

Evansburg State Park hosts a network of trails for both hiking and horseback riding, covering a total of twenty-six miles. These trails wind their way through some of the most majestic farmland and woodland in the entire county, immersing campers entirely within nature. The six miles of hiking trails are all rated from easy to moderate, so even the most inexperienced hiker will find a route that is right for them. Those motorhome camping with their equine companions will find fifteen miles of horseriding trails throughout the park, and riders are also permitted to use the roads within the Evansburg State Park.

The park is forested by a mixture of northern and southern hardwood trees in various stages of growth, and this creates the ideal habitat for a whole range of animal species. Camping at Evansburg State Park

Although camping with an RV at Evansburg State Park is not possible, RV campsites within a short drive of the park can be found. ‘Warwick Woods Campground’ just west of the state park is an ideal place to set up camp. Campers are provided with partial hookups, which include 20, 30 amp electric, and water. Facilities include a dump station, laundry service, shower block, flushing toilets, swimming pool, and on-site general store. Many of the sites are pull-thru, meaning all sizes of rigs are welcome here.

Another campground within a short journey of the park is ‘Village Scene Park.’ Here RV campers are provided with full 20, 30, 50 amp electrical, water, and sewage hookups. Facilities a laundry service, toilets, showers, and free WiFi. Pets are welcome on site but must be kept on a leash at all times.

Opened in 1829, it is considered to be the world’s first true penitentiary. The prison went on to hold infamous criminal figures such as Al Capone and Willie Sutton. Visitors can take a tour of the prison, viewing restored cells and other interesting prison artifacts.
