Discover Lake Abilene RV rentals for memorable road trips

Surrounded by miles of farmland and cattle ranch lands, Lake Abilene sees none of the summer crowds that often congest other larger, better-known lakes. Indeed, the only companion on many days might be a sole fisherman casting a fly from the shore on a quiet, misty morning. The lone visitor is likely a local farmer or rancher seeking an escape from his labor. The banks that lip the lake are shallow but steep, and little of the afternoon prairie wind reaches the surface.

Getting Outdoors

Encompassing a little over 500 acres, Lake Abilene is bordered on one side by Abilene State Park and surrounded by cattle ranches on the others. Black willow, fir and hardwood trees line the shores, lending some shade to the waters in the coves and inlets. The lake is populated by largemouth bass, channel catfish, and white crappie fish. Though fishing is generally good, during the hotter years, Lake Abilene has historically dried up significantly, rendering the boat launch all but useless. Bankside fishing is often the preferred method as a result.

Camping at Lake Abilene

In rural Texas, roads tend to be narrow and poorly maintained, and there are not many safe places to pull over so that you can grab a few hours of sleep or go exploring. Camping at Abilene State Park or one of the nearby RV parks is a smart choice.

Exploring the Area

As the second-largest state in the United States, everything is more spread out. Traveling from town-to-town can be a day-long affair. Exploring the wide-open countryside is made more comfortable by a luxury motorhome rental, though. Central Texas is steeped in history, and many small towns have established museums to acknowledge their Frontier past. The historic Village in Buffalo Gap, TX, is a set of homes and buildings that were constructed in the 1880s, including a town jail, post office, and bank. The outlier buildings include a historic Texaco gas station that was constructed in 1925. Wander the interiors, and learn about the settlers who once lived, fought, and died. The Village also occasionally hosts various community events, including an annual bluegrass festival.

This was our first time using Outdoorsy so I messaged three renters about delivery and set up. Brandon was the first and only one to respond to all my questions and make sure that we had everything we needed. Rv was accurate in the listing and photos. Brandon delivered and set the rv up for us and went through everything we needed to know and also checked in afterwards. Just bring extra towels and blankets as the ac works so well it will freeze you out! Thanks again Brandon for answering all my questions and your awesome customer service! We will be sure to rent with you again the next time we are out this way!
