Getting Outdoors

Lyman Lake is popular with anglers in the area. There is a boat launch to make it as easy as possible to get on the water, and many irregularities on the shore help create habitats where fish like to spend time. There are many common fish in the lake, including musky, panfish, and walleye. Largemouth Bass can also be caught in the lake, but they are less prevalent than the other mentioned species.

Camping at Lyman Lake

Although Lyman Lake itself does not offer any camping options on its shores, there is a state park RV campground less than ten miles away, Pattison State Park. This state park is to the northwest of Lyman Lake and offers nearly 60 campsites for campers to choose from. While camping at Pattison State Park, you’ll have the opportunity to stay at one of 18 different campsites that have full hookups.

Exploring the Area

In the area directly surrounding Lyman Lake, there is mostly nature, and the nearest towns that offer a nice collection of restaurants and other entertainment options are to the north. Duluth, MN, and Superior, WI are separated by both a state border and the St. Louis Bay, but it is easy to visit both at the same time by crossing the bridge between them. Between these two cities, you’ll be able to find a large, diverse collection of restaurants with an emphasis on Minnesota and Wisconsin specialties.

We spent a little over two weeks traveling from Minnesota to Shenandoah, Great Smoky Mountains, and Mammoth Cave National Parks. We put on over 3000 miles, 500 miles on mountain roads (Skyline Drive, The Blue Ridge Parkway, and Hwy 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains), and our van handled the climbs, descents, and curves easily. There were plenty of ports to charge electronics. The cooler-sized refrigerator is very handy, no need to keep finding ice. Storage under the bed is tall enough for good-sized duffel bags and/or small suitcases. The two nights it rained, we were happy to hear the pitter-patter on the roof, knowing we wouldn't have to pack up a wet tent before moving to our next campground.

Great van and customer service! Few minor issues - heater shut down in middle of the night, couldn’t figure out how to turn water on, no coolant. Thanks for the trip!
