Discover Pike Lake

Getting Outdoors

Encompassing 500 acres of surface area, camping at Pike Lake has become a popular pastime among boaters and fishermen. Those who are motorhome camping with their own boat can make a beeline for one of the two public boat ramps located on the lake’s western shoreline. Those without their own vessel can pick a rental up in the nearby town of Hartford. Boating can be enjoyed for several reasons, but it is most popular on Pike Lake to access some of the prime fishing spots. As its name suggests, the lake is an excellent place to catch a variety of pike species, including walleye and northern pike. Fishing is also allowed from anywhere along the lake’s shoreline as long as it is outside of the designated swimming area marked by white buoys.

With the rugged Kettle Moraine State Forest dominating the lake’s east coast, there are countless hiking opportunities when you rent a camper near Pike Lake. Keen hikers will enjoy traversing the short, but steep hike to the top of Powder Hill. Considered to be the second-highest point in southeastern Wisconsin, those that make it to the top will be rewarded with stunning views of the lake and surrounding countryside. For a slightly more relaxing stroll, choose one of the many other trails that wind through diverse wetlands, dense forests, and open prairies.

RV camping at Pike Lake is also excellent during the colder months when the lake freezes over, and the surrounding hills are blanketed in a layer of snow. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are some of the most popular activities here during winter and can be great fun for the whole family. Any fishing enthusiasts renting an RV during this time can also enjoy an afternoon of ice fishing. Do note that the ice thickness on the lake is not monitored, so any ice fishing is carried out at your own risk.

Camping at Pike Lake

Pike Lake camping is possible thanks to a rustic campground that is nestled into Kettle Moraine State Forest. Open from early April through to late October; campers can choose from 32 campsites, all of which are equipped with a private picnic table and fire pit and are located in both wooded and open landscapes. Although only eleven of the sites have electricity connections, campers can use the well-maintained washroom, complete with flushing toilets and hot showers. There is also potable water and a convenient dump station located on-site.

Consider heading a little further afield to the Timber Trail Campsite in West Bend, should you prefer camping with your creature comforts. As well as full hookups at every site, campers can enjoy a reliable WiFi connection, an outdoor swimming pool, and a children’s playground. For those without a self-contained rental RV, there are plenty of communal washroom facilities on site too!

Exploring the Area

Your Hartford camper rental will serve you well in your adventures around Washington County. Home to several different attractions itself, Hartford is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon.

Wisconsin Automotive Museum is one of the town’s most popular attractions, and it is well worth setting aside an afternoon to explore everything it has to offer. Home to one of the largest collections of classic cars and tucks in the state, visitors can learn all about the area’s transportation history. Visit the Short Track Hall of Fame, which celebrates the history of automotive racing or sit in a locomotive built in 1913 when you visit this local gem.

Located just outside of Hartford is the much-revered Holy Hill Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. Although this Roman Catholic shrine was only built-in 1931, the site has been a place of religious significance since the mid 19th century. The church attracts both pilgrims, drawn to the site for religious purposes, and tourists, coming to marvel at the churches’ magnificence perched proudly on top of Holy Hill.

Keen golfers camping nearby will be glad to hear that the well-established Erin Hills Golf Course is just a stone’s throw away from Pike Lake. Opened in 1999, this 650-acres of rolling hills, glacial rivers, and quaint lakes, has been providing a spot of recreation for many years. As well as its challenging 18-hole golf course, players can enjoy stunning views of the Wisconsin countryside.
