Lac La Belle is located on the far northern shore of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This small lake site sits on a peninsula that juts almost halfway into the large, Lake Superior. Small Lac La Belle is found on the shores of that large lake, and it contains a short channel that actually empties into the much larger body of water. This is a very rural part of the state. There are several tiny communities near the lake, such as Copper Harbor, which is about 15 miles to the northeast. However, the nearest larger town is Houghton, MI, almost 40 miles to the southwest. The nearest big city is Green Bay, WI, which is more than 250 miles to the south.

Although this area is rural, it is also quite scenic. Lac La Belle is situated within the heavily forested portion of the state. This region caters more to wild animals than people. This makes it ideal to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Hiking, camping, hunting, and scenic drives are available in the summer, while snowmobiling and other winter sports reign supreme up here during the long winter season.
