Muskegon Campground

While Muskegon and its surrounding area are absolutely beautiful, don’t be afraid to hit the road and see what Michigan has to offer in terms of natural beauty and outdoor recreation. No matter what part of the state you find yourself in, you are bound to see some impressive landscapes, beaches, forests, lakes, and recreation areas. Before you do this, however, explore Muskegon State Park. There is way more to do at the park than camping in an RV, like going swimming, fishing, boating, or hiking on 12 miles of nature trails. The wintertime brings with it a variety of possibilities, like ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or watching Olympic athletes practice on the luge course training facilities on-site. Duck Lake State Park is a few miles north of Muskegon State Park, with many of the same features. While only a few minutes' drive from Lake Michigan, Duck Lake State Park is centered around Duck Lake, with beaches, swimming areas, fishing spots, and plenty of space to canoe or kayak. PJ Hoffmaster State Park is located south in the opposite direction, also on the shoreline. The park preserves the fragile sand dune ecosystem separating the road and the lake, with an array of precious wildlife and plant life calling it home. You can hike through and see migratory birds at this beautiful conservation area, or climb the lofty dunes that tower above the lake. Manistee National Forest is found a bit north of Muskegon, between Grand Rapids and Traverse City. This sprawling forest has more than enough space to get a feel for Michigan, with vast forests covering half a million acres. Sand dunes on the lake, pristine beaches, glacial lakes, and evergreen tree groves contribute to the forest’s ethereal beauty, no matter the time of year. If you visit in the wintertime, you can snowmobile, go ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or go skiing or snowboarding at one of the small mountain resorts located in the forest. The list of places to see in Michigan is limitless, and when you book an RV in Muskegon County, you’ll be in a good position to see lots of them.
