Sagamore Hill National Historic Site is a memorial to one of America's most popular presidents, Theodore Roosevelt. The area is where Roosevelt spent his summers while in office and was referred to as his "Summer White House.” Rent an RV near Oyster Bay, New York, and you will have instant access to this iconic landmark. The site has a variety of landscapes, such as wooded areas, open fields, salt marshes, and beaches (the site is located on Long Island Sound). Roosevelt fell in love with the area as a teenager and documented much of what he saw; his notes were later passed on to the National Park Service.
Begin your tour of the site by checking in at the Visitor Center, where you can get up-to-date information about the site. You can explore the grounds on your own, checking out the hiking trails and picturesque landscape; the grounds are open to the public year-round, while the public buildings are open on specific days and during certain hours. There is a museum on-site where you can view exhibits and watch movies about the park.
Once you're done with the historic site, there are additional landmarks you'll want to see; one of these is the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary. The sanctuary is an Audubon Center and is associated with the Important Bird Areas program, a conservation effort focusing on at-risk bird species. Some of the bird species you might see here are the great egret, the eastern kingbird and the red-tailed hawk, to name a few. The sanctuary has a native garden where you can enjoy the flowers and other plants in a cultivated setting and trails for you to enjoy hiking.

Park your Oyster Bay camper rental, and you can use it as a mobile bird blind, enjoying both nature and a hot drink in comfortable surroundings.
