Whitewright is a town in Grayson County, Texas, that was incorporated in 1888. It was first conceived by financier and investor William Whitewright, who purchased a block of land in the path of a railroad being developed. Whitewright surveyed the land and established a townsite, then sold lots to settlers and businesses around 1878. By the time of incorporation, there were hotels, banks, and other businesses. The post office that was established in 1878 was made official upon incorporation. The fertile farmland attracted farmers, and Whitewright soon became a marketing, retail, and commercial hub for the farmers and other settlers.

Book an RV in Grayson County and you are set and ready to embark on a scenic and historical tour of the farmlands and communities of this county. Some other towns and cities may be of interest and worth exploring. Denison is the birthplace of former president Dwight D. Eisenhower and was a host to the Marx Brothers (a comedy team). Bonham has a statue, created in 1936, of its founder on the grounds of the local courthouse. Wolfe City is one of more than two dozen communities along the path of the Northeast Texas Trail system. Farmersville is a part of the Bankhead National Highway route from Washington DC to San Diego, the first cross-country highway to be built. McKinney is home to numerous professional athletes from a variety of sports. Your Whitewright travel trailer rental is your ticket to a pleasant and action-packed vacation.

The Great Outdoors

Herman Baker Park is a community park that was opened in 1979; its centerpiece lake, Pickens Lake, is a flood control reservoir that was opened in 1975. The park has a couple of trails, the main one having been built by a local Eagle Scout troop in 2016. The park is semi-developed, with picnic tables, benches, and outdoor bathrooms placed intermittently along the trail. Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, and picnicking along the trail, fishing in the summer, and sledding on the lake in the winter.

Caddo National Grasslands is a multi-use natural preserve that provides habitats for wildlife, grazing for cattle, and public recreational opportunities. The park has three lakes, two of which are developed and allow fishing. Other allowable activities include hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Camping and hunting are allowed, and the area is a good site for nature viewing and photography; some of the resident animal species are coyotes, bobwhite quail, and white-tailed deer. Keep your Whitewright camper rental nearby, and you can use it as a nature and wildlife blind while enjoying a freshly made coffee.

Trenton T-Ball Field is an urban outdoor recreation area with a baseball diamond and much more. Families can enjoy the nature track and the on-site tennis court, or relax and watch a game if one happens to be in progress. There is a covered patio with a concession stand and lots of seating, and a playground area for younger children.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the surrounding area, and some of these may have long-term guests. Your Whitewright RV trailer rental is all you will need to feel right at home no matter where you decide to stay.

Route 82 RV Park is a rustic RV campground with lots of open space and some trees providing shade. Guests can rent by the day, week, or month; the park has laundry facilities, a business center with high-speed internet, and a recreation room with exercise equipment. There is a pond for guests to fish in. Individual sites have full hookups, picnic tables, and grills; some sites have pull-through access, and others are back-in.

Lazy L RV Park is a cultivated RV campground with laundry facilities, a pool, and a hot tub. Individual sites have full hookups and Wi-Fi, and there are grass areas between each site. There is a clubhouse and also a playground for younger children; the park is pet-friendly. Guests can rent by the day or month, and the park has an on-site repair facility.

Exploring The City

There is lots to do in Whitewright and the surrounding area, starting with the museums. Both Grayson County and the state of Texas are steeped in history, and what better place to see it first hand than in one of its historical landmarks. One family home has exhibits, period furniture, and other items; younger children and maybe even teenagers can have fun trying to figure out how to use a rotary phone. Another museum is both a museum and a public library. There are vineyards and wineries, and several antique stores where visitors can browse for souvenirs. Don't forget to take your Whitewright motorhome rental for a spin on the local highways, one of the reasons that RV vacations are unique.

When it's time for dinner, Whitewright has a good selection of restaurants to choose from. Most of them are locally owned and operated, with a few commercial chains on hand. One pizzeria is located in a convenience store-gas station but don't be fooled by this; the venue serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and does all of these equally well. Diners can order barbecue (brisket, sausage, or ribs) by the pound. A locally-owned Mexican restaurant is located in an old, quaint house and has red brick walls inside. Diners should try the shrimp fajitas with onion and peppers. Those looking for a quieter meal can always grab some takeout and head back to their Whitewright luxury RV rental. Nothing says relaxation more than enjoying a good meal outside with a vast Texan sky overhead.
