Discover Interstate State Park

Interstate State Park is currently the oldest state park in Wisconsin is one of the most loved state parks and is a perfect escape for a motorhome camping trip. Covering 1330-acres of forested land, the state park lies within the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway and the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve in the city of Saint Croix Falls, WI, and includes the scenic Dalles of St. Croix River. Surrounded by basalt cliffs, cavernous depressions, stunning rock formations, and miles of trails, its no surprise why Interstate State Park is considered one of the best state parks in the area where you can go camping with an RV.  Wisconsin's state park is adjacent and alongside Interstate State Park in Minnesota, and a highlight of the state park is the scenic Taylor Falls.

While Interstate State Park was established in 1900, it covers an area that dates back to the Paleozoic Era- a cool 470 million years ago! The state park surroundings have evolved and given rise to a variety of habitats too. Eastern white pines, maples, and basswood forests abound, and although the original forestation of the area was denuded by loggers in the 18th century, the park is flourishing with second-growth forests with over 400 species of trees and plants.

An RV is a convenient way of traveling through Interstate State Park, and you’ll find a range of affordable RV rentals in Polk County. The area of Interstate State Park has been popular with tourists even before the park came into being, thanks to the St. Croix River and many steamboats that would traverse its waters. Today, you can explore the river and the park when you go camping at Interstate State Park.

Getting Outdoors

St. Croix River provides excellent fishing opportunities for anglers at Interstate State Park. All kinds of game fish, including walleye, northern pike, muskie, and small-mouth bass, are easily caught here when you cast your fishing line. For great shore fishing, check out the Lake O’ the Dalles.

Boating is popular on the river and lake, and canoes and kayaks bobbing up and down are a common sight. Should you rather a dip in the cool waters, then the calm Lake O’ the Dalles is ideal for swimming during your RV rental vacation. There is a beach house and a swimming beach where you can swim out into the lake.

The highlight of Interstate State Park is the fantastic rock climbing opportunities you get to enjoy. Keep in mind that although no permit is required, it’s better to exercise extreme caution when rock climbing in the park as its entirely unsupervised and is at your own risk.

Should you rather have a winter visit, cross-country skiing paths are plenty, and hiking paths are available for snowshoeing.

Camping at Interstate State Park

Park your RV rental at Interstate State Park to enjoy easy access to the park’s many recreational offerings. Across the border, in Minnesota, there’s a campground with 37 campsites. Amenities include tent camping, 20 and 30 amp electric service, a dump station, and limited cell phone connectivity. There are restrooms, shower stalls, and a camp store for last-minute camping essentials. Make use of the recreational trails around the park. You could also go fishing, boating, and use the recreation room. Don't forget to bring your furry friends along to this pet-friendly campground.

When looking for a place to camp in an RV near Interstate State Park, drive to Turtle Lake, WI, and set up at St. Croix Casino RV Park. The RV park has 18 campsites and amenities at the campground include big rig access, tent camping, full hookups, 20, 30, and 50 amp electric service, water, sewer, a dump station, central water spigot, and limited cell phone connectivity. Campers have access to restrooms, showers, a designated pet area for your furry friends, and the availability of firewood. Kids will love splashing around in the swimming pool, or they can run around in the playground. Explore the many recreational trails or spend time in the recreation room. The casino adds to the entertainment at the campground for those that have reached the minimum age to enter.

Exploring the Area

Neighboring St. Croix County is home to the city of Hudson, WI, about 45 minutes from Interstate State Park. The city is conveniently located amid scenic surroundings and offers a great art and culture scene.

Spend some time at Willow River State Park located a few miles outside Hudson and enjoy non-motorized boating, fishing, swimming, rock climbing, and picnicking.

Stop by at the Phipps Center for the Arts if you enjoy music, dance, and the arts. Stroll through the pubic art galleries that are open to the pubic seven days of the week.

Sign up for a tour of the Octagon House Museum to get an insight into the historical society of St. Croix Valley. The house used to be the residence of Judge John Shaw Moffat.

Spend the day at Badlands Sno Park, an outdoor recreational park that offers fun winter activities. Snow tubing is a highlight at the park that has since become a top-rated snow-tubing destination.

Wisconsin is known for a range of interesting delicacies that have made the state famous. Try out the cream puffs, bratwurst, butter burgers, and fried cheese curds while you’re in the city of Hudson and other parts of Wisconsin.

Pick up supplies for the road at a local convenience store and fill up your rental RV at a gas station after your adventure at Insterstate State Park.
