Daisy Park Campground

Just a few miles east of the campground is the Yankee Springs Recreation Area in Middleville. A great way to spend the day without having to travel too far from the RV campground, Yankee Springs offers a wide variety of recreational activities for those looking to get a real sense of Michigan. You can enjoy 30 miles of hiking trails that cut through the forest, traverse through the bogs, and lead around the shores of Gun Lake and Deep Lake. Or instead, you can bring your fishing pole with you and see if you can catch any local bass or trout. If you’re traveling in the winter, you can access the roughly ten miles of the converted multi-purpose trails to explore this idyllic winter wonderland. Those who want to get a true sense of the wilderness of Michigan can head to Fort Custer State Recreation Area in Augusta. The area of Fort Custer SRA used to belong to the U.S. Army and was used as a training center during World War II. Today, Michigan has worked hard to preserve the wild beauty of the state. Fort Custer is home to an expansive second-growth oak forest as well as some of the surviving remnants of Michigan’s prairie land. You can bike across the 25 miles of multi-use trails and see the prairies, forests, lakes, and rivers, or you can relax on the sandy beach of Eagle Lake. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can rent a boat in the summer and travel Fort Custer’s waterways and see Michigan from a different perspective. For those who travel to Michigan in the hopes of spending some time near the Great Lakes, take a day trip to Saugatuck Dunes State Park in Holland. On the banks of Lake Michigan, this sandy shoreline welcomes visitors to forget their worries and soak up the sun. Or instead, you can go hiking over and through the dunes and learn about these unique freshwater coastal dunes. Saugatuck is also a great destination for avian lovers, so if you want to check some freshwater birds off of your list, this is a great place to start.
