Canadensis, Pennsylvania is situated in the northeastern portion of the state. This unincorporated area gives a small town atmosphere to visitors with its friendly people and historic buildings. Its name from the Latin word for “hemlock” due to it residing within the Pocono Mountains which is filled with this type of tree.

Exploring the City

There are many places to explore with your travel trailer rental from Canadensis. A short drive away in Scranton is the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour. This museum was once a coal mine during the late 1800s and teaches guests more behind coaling mining techniques and history. Visitors can climb into a mine car and descend 300 ft. below into the ground to view where miners once worked. Guided tours are given, which allow guests to learn even more information about the mine’s interesting history.

History and architecture lovers, take your Canadensis camper rental to the Nathan Denison House in Wilkes-Barre. This structure was built in 1790 and is unique to the area due to its New England architecture and central chimney. Tours are available of the house, and it hosts various events throughout the year, such as reenactments and talks on Revolutionary War-era topics.

A quick drive away in Easton is the National Canal Museum. The museum resides next to the restored Lehigh Canal and allows guests to hop on an old canal boat that’s drawn by mules - one of the only of its kind in the state. The museum has exhibits which tell more about history and life during the 19th-century. There are also numerous trails for biking and walking that wind around it.

While in Easton, stop by the Lost River Caverns. This large limestone structure features five chambers for you to explore with a guided walking tour. The caverns are also located next to the Gilman Museum, which houses collections of various types of rocks, fossils, and gemstones. There is also a 1,800 ft. walking trail that winds around the caverns and will take you on a fun outdoor adventure through the nearby forest where you’ll be able to view different types of plants and animals.
