Canadensis, Pennsylvania is situated in the northeastern portion of the state. This unincorporated area gives a small town atmosphere to visitors with its friendly people and historic buildings. Its name from the Latin word for “hemlock” due to it residing within the Pocono Mountains which is filled with this type of tree.

The town is located near major routes, such as Pennsylvania Routes 447 and 390, making it easy to travel around with your RV rental from Canadensis. It has very warm summers but cool fall days and nights due to the mountain air.

The Great Outdoors

One outdoor destination to take your RV rental to is Tobyhanna State Park. Covering over 5,440 acres, the park features a variety of outdoor activities to do. You could hike down its 10 miles of trails, each of which have different difficulty levels. You could also swim or go fishing in Tobyhanna Lake. In addition to this, you could search for old artillery shells which were from a former artillery range that was located in the park during the 1950s.

Situated on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, this spot features over 28 miles of trails, including part of the Appalachian National Trail. There’s also Paradise Price Preserve. The nature preserve covers 777 acres and will take you within a lush forest filled with rushing streams as well as plants like white pines and sassafras trees. There are also old railroad tracks which have been converted into trails for guests to hike down.

This campground offers many amenities for guests, which include water, 50-amps, cable, sewer, bathhouses, and WiFi. Timothy Lake South RV. This pet-friendly spot has 312 sites and amenities such as laundry, showers, and WiFi, although it costs a bit extra for the WiFi. It also has a pool and general store.

Exploring the City

There are many places to explore with your travel trailer rental from Canadensis. A short drive away in Scranton is the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour. This museum was once a coal mine during the late 1800s and teaches guests more behind coaling mining techniques and history. Visitors can climb into a mine car and descend 300 ft. below into the ground to view where miners once worked. Guided tours are given, which allow guests to learn even more information about the mine’s interesting history.

History and architecture lovers, take your Canadensis camper rental to the Nathan Denison House in Wilkes-Barre. This structure was built in 1790 and is unique to the area due to its New England architecture and central chimney. Tours are available of the house, and it hosts various events throughout the year, such as reenactments and talks on Revolutionary War-era topics.

A quick drive away in Easton is the National Canal Museum. The museum resides next to the restored Lehigh Canal and allows guests to hop on an old canal boat that’s drawn by mules - one of the only of its kind in the state. The museum has exhibits which tell more about history and life during the 19th-century. There are also numerous trails for biking and walking that wind around it.

While in Easton, stop by the Lost River Caverns. This large limestone structure features five chambers for you to explore with a guided walking tour. The caverns are also located next to the Gilman Museum, which houses collections of various types of rocks, fossils, and gemstones. There is also a 1,800 ft. walking trail that winds around the caverns and will take you on a fun outdoor adventure through the nearby forest where you’ll be able to view different types of plants and animals.
