In late 1600s, England awarded William Penn with a land charter, which comprised much of Pennsylvania. Penn later sold the land in parcels, and Fairview Village was a part of one of these parcels. The town was officially established in mid-1700s. Situated on top of a hill, it had an excellent view of Philadelphia, which is how its name came about: Fairview Village.
For several years, Fairview Village and the other neighboring towns had no bridges. As a result, many of the roads at the time followed the creeks at length to find shallow crossing points. Some of the modern roads are laid over these old routes and are quite circuitous. One of the oldest insurance companies in Pennsylvania, established in 1834, was called the “Farmers’ Union Horse Company for the Recovery of Stolen Horses and Detecting the Thieves.” This insurance company is still in business today, though its objective has changed over the years. The Farmers’ Union Horse Company today mainly focuses on protecting the interests of the local horse owners, maintaining the equestrian trails, and supports horse rescues.
The closest large town is Norristown, about five miles southeast.
