Mertztown is a census-designated place in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is also a part of Longswamp Township. The town was founded by a Robert Mertz in 1823 and in 1917, it welcomed Atlas Minerals which moved there and has been there ever since. There were originally two railroad lines that ran through the town, but one was torn up; the other one still exists. The existing line runs through Mertzville and was initially named Reading Railroad. It is now known as Reading Line and is heavily used by Norfolk Southern.
