Those visiting Ralph Stover State Park can try out numerous outdoor activities while here. One is whitewater rafting. The park is located near Tohickon Creek, which is known for its impressive rapids. When water levels rise, visitors can take their vessel out on it for a thrilling adventure.

Visitors could also go hiking. Hikers will find a handful of trails to explore, such as the High Rocks Trail, which provides panoramic views of the grounds and will take you by the edge of Tohickon Creek. There’s also the Doans Cave Trail, which contains rough terrain making it ideal for those who want something challenging. The trek will be well worth the effort in the end, as it will take you to a hidden cave.

Fishing is yet another way to enjoy the outdoors at Ralph Stover State Park. The best place to fish at the park is in Tohickon Creek, which contains species such as bass, carp, catfish, and sunfish. Fishers do need to have a Pennsylvania fishing license to fish here.

Camping at Ralph Stover State Park

This motorhome camping spot provides numerous RV sites that come with amenities such as electric and water hookups. Another RV campground is the Little Red Barn Campground. This family-friendly RV campground is open from April to October and offers 152 motorhome sites. Some amenities campers will find here include water, electric, picnic tables, restrooms, and WiFi. This option also has a pool, volleyball court, and a laundry room.

Exploring the Area

There are quite a few interesting attractions that are only a short drive away from Ralph Stover State Park. About an hour away in Philadelphia is Independence National Historical Park. This historic structure houses the iconic Liberty Bell and is where the Founding Founders once sat to debate and sign the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. In addition to this, visitors can step inside the park’s Benjamin Franklin Museum that tells more about his life through a handful of exhibits.

While in Philadelphia, visit the Reading Terminal Market. This massive market is one of the oldest public markets in the country and sells numerous homemade and locally-grown goods. Visitors will find everything from local honey to freshly-made donuts for sale here. In addition to this, the market is home to many restaurants. Throughout the year, this attraction also hosts events such as music festivals, food tastings, and storytimes for children.

In Lancaster, there’s the Amish Village. The village is designed to teach guests more about the area’s rich Amish heritage. Visitors can trek through over 12 acres where they can explore an Amish homestead and even buy or consume goods made by the Amish. Guided tours are provided of the grounds and are available in different themes, such as farmhouse tours and backroad bus tours.

Head over to York to explore the Colonial Complex. This complex of historic buildings is filled with structures from the 18th-century, like homes and taverns. Besides viewing old architecture, you’ll also be able to learn more about the area’s intricate history, such as how it was where the Second Continental Congress once convened and learn interesting tales about Lafayette who visited the area.

A short drive away from the Colonial Complex in York is the Haines Shoe House. Built-in the late 1940s, this large structure resembles a shoe and was originally built to be the home of shoe salesman Mahlon Haines as a way to advertise his business. Today, the house serves as a museum, and guided tours can be taken of it. There is also an ice cream shop, and bakery inside that serve scrumptious treats, like peanut butter eggs and ice cream floats.
