It all began when a Brooklyn bacteriologist recovering from cholera fell in love with the innkeeper’s daughter at the Swiftwater Inn. The land he inherited adjacent to the inn was used to build his laboratory, which has gone on to be one of the biggest flu vaccine plants in the United States.
