From the very beginning, the lake was stocked with shads and gizzards, encouraging recreational fishing here. Since then the lake has added largemouth bass, white crappie, and channel catfish to the long list of catchable fish in its waters. The success of fishing on Lake Alan Henry has become so great that the lake now regularly holds fishing tournaments. Whether you choose to fish from the fifty-six miles of shoreline or a boat, fishing on Lake Alan Henry is not to be missed.

Camping At Lake Alan Henry

When you decide to stay directly on the lake, Samuel W. Wahl Recreation Area provides a campground. With up to forty sites, there are plenty of camping spots to choose from. Although the location is ideal, there are no hookups at this campground. Vault toilets, showers, and a dump station are provided.

Exploring The Area

A visit to Lubbock, Texas, would not be complete without a visit to The Buddy Holly Center. Lubbock is the birthplace of the world-famous musician. Formerly the fine arts center of Lubbock, the center now houses many artifacts previously owned by Holly. These include his famous Fender Stratocaster guitar, recording microphone, performance outfits, and even a pair of the iconic glasses he was wearing at the time of his death. The center is a microcosm of information and entertainment all based around arguably one of the US’s biggest cultural icons.
