There are many ways to enjoy the great outdoors while at York River State Park. Hiking is one popular activity. You’ll find over 11 trails to explore in the park that will take you not only along the York River’s shoreline, but near a local estuary, marshes, and forests. A few pathways hikers can explore while here include the Beaver Trail, Black Bear Run Trail, Powhatan Forks Trail, and Woodstock Pond Trail, most of which are loop trails.

In Williamsburg, visitors can explore Colonial Williamsburg. This historic area allows visitors to time-travel back to early America as they roam down cobblestone streets lined with old buildings to explore. Along the way, you’ll come across costumed interpreters who you can chat with or listen to as they give speeches or perform demonstrations. After touring the grounds, visitors can take a quick walk over to Merchants Square, where you’ll find artisan shops and restaurants. Colonial Williamsburg is also home to two art museums that showcase historic artwork and archeological pieces found in it.

Less than an hour away in Richmond is the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Covering over 50 acres, this botanical attraction was once home to a clubhouse designed by Lewis Ginter, a prominent Richmonder, before it was converted into a public garden. Visitors can tour its numerous gardens or check out one of the many exhibitions it hosts throughout the year.

In Virginia Beach, there’s the Cavalier Hotel. This historic hotel was built in 1927 and was once visited by many former celebrities and political figures, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Doris Day, and Harry Truman. Tour the interior of the hotel to learn more about its interesting history or dine at one of its quaint restaurants. Visitors can also check out its distillery, which is one of the first to be placed in a U.S. hotel.

Drive your motorhome to Suffolk and check out St. Luke’s Historic Church and Museum. This structure was made in 1682 and is one of the oldest churches in Virginia. Guests to the church can take a tour of the grounds and of the church’s interior, where they’ll not only be able to learn about its history but view its intricate architecture as well. There are 45-minute guided tours available, and admission is required.
