As the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is made up of several former mine lakes, fishing is by far the biggest draw for its visitors. Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake has a public boat launching ramp on its northwestern shore; this makes accessing the water a simple undertaking. This theme park is home to over twenty-seven rides for all ages and will keep the little ones entertained for hours. The park’s centerpiece is a 26-foot-tall animated talking statue of the famous folklore lumberjack.

Another perfect place the entire family can go and enjoy is the Three Bear Waterpark in Baxter. This waterpark boasts a myriad of waterslides, lazy rivers, water jets, and much more water-themed fun. The waterpark is also home to a children’s pool, perfect for the little ones to enjoy in the safety of their surroundings. Parents will also be pleased to know that all pools are overseen by a team of lifeguards, ensuring everyone enjoys the pools responsibly.

Campers with love for nature and animals may wish to visit the Safari North Wildlife Park in Brainer; only a few miles drive from Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. Here families can catch glimpses of a whole plethora of wild animals from each corner of the globe. This wildlife park also prides itself on the fact it allows its visitors to get up close and personal with some of its animals. Spend an afternoon feed the herd of giraffes in the park or mingle a hundred parakeets in the parakeet landing exhibit.
