Although Mine Hill Township was incorporated as a township relatively recently, in 1923, there were settlers and miners residing in the area as far back as the early 1700s. As the name suggests, the area was known for mines. In fact, the hill upon which the town was built was one of the richest sources of iron ore in the entire country. The owner of the mine, Mahlon Dickerson, supplied most of the iron during the American Revolutionary War, and historians suspect that he sold to both sides. The last mine closed in the 1960s.

New Jersey has hundreds of wilderness parks. Most are small. Some are large. A travel trailer rental from Mine Hill makes it easy to explore them all and find an adventure of a lifetime. Hopatcong State Park surrounds a nine-mile-long lake with a thin border of land. Though hiking opportunities are scarce, there’s plenty of waterfront activities to be had. Nearly all types of boats, ranging from motor boats to sailboats, are welcome. Two boat ramps are available to the public, and the private marinas at various points along the shore also have boats for rent. The public beach has a lifeguard on duty during the summer months, and swimming is welcome. Elsewhere, swim at your own risk. Anglers can catch a variety of fish including channel catfish, walleye, hybrid striped bass, and rainbow trout.

When you book an RV rental in Mine Hill, be sure to consider where you’ll park overnight. Street parking is prohibited in many towns. There are a few private campgrounds nearby, though.
