Bensalem is a community in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania; the township borders Philadelphia at the northeast section of Philadelphia's city limits. The township was formed in 1692, just ten years after the state of Pennsylvania was formed. Today the town is host to a number of landmark attractions, such as the Mission Center and National Shrine of St. Katharine Drexel, and the Mongkoltepmunee Buddhist Temple. It has been a shooting location for a number of Hollywood films like Signs (2002), Safe (2012), and the TV series Outlaw (the pilot was filmed there in 2010). Although historians strongly suggest otherwise, local legend claims that Ben Franklin performed his famed kite flying experiment at Bensalem.
