Chartered as a borough in 1853, Catasauqua sprawls along the Lehigh River to the north of Philadelphia and is affectionately known by locals as “Catty.” It was established as a manufacturing hub for anthracite iron in the mid-19th century, although George Taylor (a signer of the Declaration of Independence) had built his Georgian stone house here as early as 1768.
